I work for the company that provides KLM's IFE, and they are one of my customers, so I was particularly pleased to hear that your experience was generally positive!

All customers are very heavily involved in the design of their GUI and the content, and what they expect the system to do for them.

Touch screen technology has been available on IFE systems for many years, and while I know you thought it would be better than the handset, the issue of having one or not usually comes down to cleanliness and viewability of the screen. Between flight leg turn around clean-ups do not always seem to allow time for a thorough cabin clean, never mind asking the custodial crew to run through and clean every passenger screen!

Thanks again for the feedback. It is always a pleasure to hear that something I had a hand in has made a long intercontinental flight more bearable!

Dan Levy's entertaining article cracked open fond memories of my first overseas plane trip on KLM Royal Dutch Airlines in 1959 when I was 10. I recall the blue KLM carry-on bags my family was given and the friendly and crisp service. There was no seatback entertainment system, so I know the aircraft did not squiggle through some LOST series type time warp. I don't recall the Holland Herald which Danso enjoyed; but then I wouldn't, would I?- unless they had a comic book insert. I am pretty sure that crayons and paper were distributed. And for a 10 year old that is an IFE package that cannot be beat.

KLM is my favorite airline, even if I find their IFE average at best. But then again, I find in general I am disappointed with IFE choice. Magazines are key, and KLM's has interesting stories because of the great locations they fly to. Otherwise their staff is great (and pretty!), service is excellent and overall just a strong brand!
