[...] It is fairly clear that price is important to consumers, but have airlines done the best job at marketing a flight as more than a flight? What about telling customers exactly what they’re getting — like satellite television — when they book? The Cranky Flier’s Brett Snyder seems to think airlines need to give travelers a better sense of what they’re booking. [...]

I like that last line "...air travel will continue to be a commodity ...". To me, That's what it has been. Cheapest flight, try to have fewest connections as possible and book. Not surprisingly, I have a bad taste in my mouth (until I get off the plane in a new city and then...). Your points are valid, and I think if airlines showed us more options and possibilities, it could become a better experience. For the infrequent flier, it seems like price and timing is key.

At this point, I find it ridiculous that some airlines don't have on-demand entertainment or decent service. I mean, the former was invented in, what, the '80s? And service was better in the '60s! The problem isn't just about giving customers more information (though that would be nice). It's about stepping up the whole experience!
