Posting your photos and information on Facebook allows for virtual stalking by friends of friends, who may or may not show up at the party you've RSVPed for (but may not ultimately attend), or who will satisfy themselves with shots of you from the night before. Telling people exactly where you are at a given moment opens yourself up to actual, face-to-face (or face-to-back of head) stalking, and, perhaps even more troubling, non-threatening but oh-so-awkward real-life interaction.

I love any technology that's inherently geospatial; however, I also think there are signficant security issues with posting where you are at any given time, esp if that information is real-time. It's an open invitation for bad-doers to come find you or to know you aren't at home (which may be even better info). Personally, I plan to keep my exact location at any given time entirely private.

It's interesting though that it does attract certain segments. Not forgetting that many millions of people are geo -tagging. Perhaps relative to Facebook and even Myspace, but these numbers are still smaller than expected. I don't see it as a trust issue, as on other networks we share our entire life story. What is lacking is incentive, and badges are not really enough. The people who use it at this point are either boasting/showing off, or using it for business incentives (or very lonely/on a trip alone). It is still not at the point of being a tool for friends.

I think it basically comes down to trust, all of these social media tools have gone some way to putting a layer between the user and the connected world, and geo-tagging your online existance removes that layer and opes you up. The truth is that trust is still the number one concern of onine users today, of all ages, and geo-tagging where you are doesnt yet fly with us users, we simply arent ready to open our worl up that much... yet.
